Doppelgänger is an art trail that brings together around 12 emerging artists, who represent the dynamism and diversity of the Brussels art scene. This exhibition appears in eight shop windows on a trail that runs from the Bourse/Beurs to Atelier KANAL from KANAL-Centre Pompidou.

Doppelgänger was conceived as a reaction to our current state of latent alienation, reinforced by a period of almost zero visibility and an economic void for young artists. It refers to the codes of marketing, industrial production, graphic identity and the values that drive the world of economy and art.

The exhibition, through the infiltration of works of art in unoccupied commercial cells, highlights the way in which artists seize and disrupt these codes.

The main artery of the art trail is Rue Antoine Dansaert, a downtown thoroughfare that is historically linked to creators and that is accessible to the public day and night. The exhibition offers a fresh look at the way the cultural and economic sectors intertwine. It raises the question of where works of art are exhibited and how they are perceived by a wider audience, all in the spirit of a potential return of art to the public arena.

The art trail ends at Atelier KANAL (KANAL-Centre Pompidou), which has invited emerging artists to participate for the first time.

Doppelgänger est une promenade-exposition rassemblant une douzaine d’artistes émergents, représentatifs du dynamisme et de la diversité de la scène artistique bruxelloise. Cette exposition est visible à travers un parcours de 8 vitrines, de la Bourse à l’Atelier KANAL de KANAL-Centre Pompidou.

En réponse à un état d’aliénation latent, renforcé par une période de quasi invisibilité et d’inexistence économique des jeunes artistes, Doppelgänger fait référence aux codes du marketing, de la production industrielle, de la production de signes de reconnaissance graphique et des valeurs qui animent le monde économique et artistique.

Ce parcours, à travers l’infiltration d’œuvres d’art dans des cellules commerciales inoccupées, met en exergue la façon dont les artistes s’emparent et détournent ces codes.

Articulée principalement le long de la rue Antoine Dansaert, artère du centre-ville historiquement liée aux créateurs, accessible aux regards jour et nuit, cette exposition repense l’imbrication des secteurs culturels et économiques. Elle pose la question du lieu d’exposition des œuvres et de leur perception par une audience plus large, dans un esprit de retour à l’art public.

Le parcours aboutit à l’Atelier KANAL (KANAL-Centre Pompidou), qui accueille pour la première fois des artistes émergents.

Doppelgänger is een wandeling annex expositie die een tiental kunstenaars samenbrengt. Het gaat om opkomende artiesten die de dynamiek en diversiteit van de Brusselse kunstscene weerspiegelen. De tentoonstelling is uitgewerkt als een parcours langs acht etalages, van de Antoine Dansaertstraat tot Atelier KANAL van KANAL-Centre Pompidou.

Doppelgänger wil een antwoord bieden op de sluimerende staat van vervreemding die de laatste maanden nog versterkt werd, toen jonge artiesten haast onzichtbaar waren en op economisch vlak nauwelijks meetelden. Het project vertrekt van codes uit de marketing, de industriële productie, de productie van bekende grafische tekens en waarden die de economische en artistieke wereld tot leven brengen.

Dit parcours, door de infiltratie van kunstwerken in onbezette commerciële cellen, brengt de manier op de voorgrond waarop de kunstenaars zich die codes.

De tentoonstelling loopt vooral in de Antoine Dansaertstraat, het kloppend hart van het centrum dat historisch gezien verbonden is met creatieve ontwerpers, en is dag en nacht te zien. De expositie stelt zo de verstrengeling van de culturele en economische sector in vraag. Ze onderzoekt mogelijke locaties om werken tentoon te stellen en bevraagt de perceptie van een groter publiek, wat het gevoel van kunst in de openbare ruimte oproept.

Het parcours eindigt aan Atelier KANAL (KANAL-Centre Pompidou), dat voor het eerst jonge kunstenaars huisvest.
